The Islamic community of Ames, Iowa is looking for an Imam who is well versed in Islamic sciences and at the same time is familiar with Western environment, to fill the position of Imam at the Ames Masjid. A wide range of responsibilities falls under this position, ranging from community related duties to interfacing with main stream society and muslim ummah. Leading the prayer, lecturing, teaching, speaking and participating at official functions and educational activities conducting marriages and funerals, are official examples of such responsibilities.
Education and Language
A degree in Islamic studies from a recognized Islamic institution.
Ability to understand and communicate in Arabic and English.
Knowledge
Knowledge of fiqh, while a person may belong to a particular school of fiqh, he must be knowledgeable in the methods and opinions of all schools and should also show respect to their teachings.
Knowledge and understanding of issues particular to Muslim minority in a non-Muslim environment.
Knowledge of recitation (tajweed) of the Holy Quran.
Abilities/experience
Ability and experience in teaching adults and children.
Ability and experience to dialogue with other faith groups with respect and understanding.
Ability to relate to different age groups.
Ability to work in harmony and close cooperation with members and elected representatives of the community.
Ability to mediate and resolve social, communal and especially family problems from an Islamic perspective, keeping in mind the environment (a plus).
