Job Description - Imam Position (Full-time)
Darul Arqum Islamic Center (DAIC) is looking to hire a dynamic and social imam to engage with the families and students in the Ames Muslim community.
Ames is a university town, and is consistently ranked in the top best small cities to live in in the U.S. The Ames Muslim community is a young community, consisting in a large part of students, in addition to several resident professional families.
The imam is expected to serve as DAIC’s spiritual leader by implementing faith-based programming and engaging with community members. The ideal candidate is approachable, works well with others, and has experience interacting with Muslims with a variety of backgrounds (nationalities, ages, schools of Fiqh, etc.) The imam is also expected to interface with non-Muslims and participate in interfaith activities.
Required Qualifications

Formal religious education (e.g. an Islamic Studies degree from an accredited institution)

Fluency in English

Proficiency in Quranic Arabic

Eligible to work in the US
Preferred Qualifications

Fluency in Arabic

Memorization and recitation of Quran with Tajweed

Understanding different schools of Fiqh

Experience in Islamic family and/or youth counseling

A history of leading outreach events aimed at youth/students

Experience teaching Islamic (Sunday) School
Responsibilities
-
Lead daily salah and some Taraweeh prayers
-
Deliver Khutbah for Jummah, Eid, and Qiyam
-
Work with the DAIC board to plan and implement community outreach and activities

Counsel community members on religious and personal issues

Oversee religious programming for all community groups

Perform Nikahs and facilitate funerals

Organize Halaqa and other religious programming

Participate in teaching the DAIC Islamic (Sunday) school
